During StrangeLoop 2015, Asynchrony is hosting an “Afterhours” party with Llewellyn Falco (an internationally recognized technical coach/mentor & StrangeLoop presenter – check out Llewellyn’s blog at http://llewellynfalco.blogspot.com/). Our party with Llewellyn will include both coding and non-coding activities focusing on “New Modes of Learning” in a festive atmosphere and be held in Asynchrony’s downtown St. Louis office – located at 900 Spruce Street, St. Louis, MO 63102 (just a few blocks from the StrangeLoop venue at the Peabody Opera House).
The party will be held on Friday evening, September 25, 2015 from 6 PM until ~10 PM. Food/Drinks/Prizes & Learning will be offered and while there is NO cost to attend, attendance is limited due to space constraints – those attending the party must be have a ticket to gain entry – tickets will be released in waves and issued on a first come / first served basis.
Tickets can be reserved at the following URL: http://strangeloopafterhours.brownpapertickets.com.
Also follow @Asynchrony on Twitter (https://www.twitter.com/Asynchrony) for notifications regarding the release of additional tickets .
Here’s what we have in store for those interested in attending:
GATHERING – Around 6:00 PM, we’ll begin with tacos, nachos & camaraderie amongst party attendees (plus beer and Red Bull of course). For fun, those present may wish to engage in a competitive “Timed 1-on-1 Jenga Tournament” for which prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner up. Not up for playing Jenga, spectators are welcomed as well.
CODING – Around 7:00 PM, Llewellyn will convene a “Mob Programming” coding Dojo focusing on coding katas & koans (coding puzzles) intended to promote learning. The Dojo will begin with all participants working in a single mob to allow everyone to experience the ability of “Mob Programming” to amplify and accelerate learning. Once the Dojo is rolling, some participants may self-organize into smaller groups, or everyone may elect to stay within a large mob (we’ll find out what happens on Friday evening, 9/25/2015). Feel free to bring your own laptop, if you want to be able to do some individual exploration for the katas and koans during the mob session.
ADVANCED LEARNING – Throughout the evening, we’ll pause the mob programming Dojo to highlight other fun and engaging activities that promote improved learning. Activities may include:
- Challenging the subconscious parts of your brain to recognize patterns using “Sparrow Decks”
- Explore the use reflection and retrospectives to promote meta-cognition
- Test your “Visual Mojo” by using visualizations & sketching to express and share items learned
- Experience impromptu speaking and thinking with a few rounds “Powerpoint Karaoke”
MORE SUGAR / GAMES / PRIZES – Around 8:30 PM, we’ll take break from the Dojo and advanced learning activities to enjoy a few sweet treats (more sugar = more energy for learning). We’ll present a few more fun competitive games for which prizes will be awarded.
THE END – Evening events will conclude between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM.
